The south east region of Melbourne produces 44% of the state of Victoria's total manufactured output.

SEMMA is a bold initiative by members of the manufacturing industry to address the lack of understanding of the industry, especially within the government. The alliance was created to co-operate with relevant organisations and proactively represent the issues and opportunities in South East Melbourne.

SEMMA is an independent body that represents the interests of manufacturers within the region by:

• Lobbying State and Federal governments on all issues directly relating to manufacturing
• Promoting the manufacturing capability of the region
• Facilitating collaboration both within and outside the region
• Identifying local and international business opportunities for members 
• Providing operational support for members to grow and develop their businesses

Current projects include:

• Work Cover Initiatives
• Building and Construction Project Tracking Software License for members
• Group purchasing power for lower international freight rates
• Liaising with the Australian Indian Business Council
